Full time Kennels Manager required for a busy charity kennels

All Dogs Matter is a charity working in and around London to transform the lives of unwanted and abandoned dogs. We also rehome dogs in need from overseas.

Role: Kennel Manager

Location: All Dogs Matter kennels, Waltham Abbey EN9
Salary: £16,000-£20,000 per annum, depending on experience
Full/Part time: Full Time – including most Saturdays
Contract type: Permanent

Essential Requirements

Caring approach to animal welfare

Good communication skills

Experience of working in kennels or come from an animal welfare background

Experience of managing staff / volunteers

Confident with dog handling and some knowledge of dog behaviour

Good level of physical fitness for a demanding role

Ability to work well under pressure

Own transport essential due to rural location

Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, the responsibilities will include, but not be limited to;

Dog Intake and Ongoing Care

Liaising with Dog Warden and private rehomers regarding intake of dogs and collecting dogs

Transporting dogs to foster carers/adopters and ADM office

Assessment of dogs on arrival – behaviour assessment, scanning, photographing and description

Walking and socialising of dogs and some basic training

Health checks, arranging vaccinations and transporting dogs to vets

Maintaining register of dogs and update kennel boarding list

Arranging bathing/grooming of dogs as necessary

Ensuring kennels and yard are safe, dry and clean

Providing ongoing assessment updates on dogs to ADM office staff

Maintaining a kennel enrichment programme for dogs at kennels

Volunteers

Managing volunteers at kennels

Maintaining volunteer WhatsApp and Messenger groups, posting updates and ensuring any queries and problems are answered

Maintaining volunteer activity sheets and ensure checked on a regular basis

Rehoming/Fostering

Meeting with and assess potential adopters/fosterers at kennels

Providing advice about specific issues and general ongoing care of dogs

Completing adoption/fostering paperwork and payment

Providing follow up advice where necessary

Administration

Uploading key information to Shelter Manager system

Writing and maintain relevant procedures and training documents

Attending regular meetings with ADM office staff

Attending regular meetings with kennel staff

Maintaining equipment (leads, collars etc) at kennels, ensuring there are adequate supplies

Providing support to fundraising and PR events

The successful candidate will, ideally, have the following:

Previous kennel experience or come from animal welfare background

Calm manner under pressure

Positive attitude

An aptitude to work with all types of people

A full UK driver’s license

Two professional references which will be checked
